Today was our first day at work. As expected it was pretty hard. The language barrier wasn't as much trouble as I expected as there are quite a few staff who speak a little English. The main trouble was they wanted me to sit in the housekeeping office all day, 'doing what?' I hear you ask…well that was just it, doing nothing. That's how management works here, they are the people who are far enough up the cast system to have the best paid jobs while actually doing nothing. That just wasn't me so I gave myself little jobs familiarising myself with the contents of my desk and cupboards and trying to lean staff's names, so far they are Sunday, Grumpy drawers and Mr Useless. It appears Mr Useless was stand in manager until I arrived so was used to just sitting in the office. I tried to get him to help me learn routines etc but he wasn't interested, too much like work. Slightly peeved by this I decided after lunch I would go and work with Vincent in the restaurant. The advantage of being manager is that you can do whatever you want. I felt much better in the restaurant and busied around reorganising whatever Vincent suggested.
