Despite waking up early with the traffic noise in the park, we all had a bit of a lie in and a long leisurely breakfast of fresh eggs laid by the chooks at Bivouac Junction. Once showered and dressed we headed into Cairns and parked down by the passenger terminal, then walked The Esplanade. We stopped for coffee and ice cream by the lagoon and then watched the police march past, which included a full police band of bagpipes and drums, celebrating 150 years of the QLD police force. We walked as far as Muddy's playground and the kids all had a climb on the spider before walking back to the car. We drove home for lunch and then headed back to the Lagoon around 230 pm so that the kids could have a swim. Before hitting the Lagoon we drove to Holloways Beach to have a look at the ocean. It did not look inviting at all as the water was a muddy brown and there were croc-warning signs posted on the beach. However, some people were in the water windsurfing and they didn't look too stressed! We also drove passed Flecker Botanical Gardens in Edge Hill, a fantastic looking suburb with some great looking cafes and houses. Back at the Lagoon. it was way too cold for Nick and me in the water but the park was full of activity as a band was playing and a market was in full swing. The smaller kids didn't last too long in the water and so once they were all dry and dressed Matty and I went off to explore the market stalls and find a coffee. By the time we got back everyone was back in the water having another swim!! By 5 pm we finally made them get out and get dry and took them for a pizza across the road. We ordered two large pizzas initially but they were so tasty and gone within minutes that we ordered another one before having ice creams for dessert! We headed back to the car and watched a flamethrower on the way. The pavements and trees were all lit up with different coloured lights and there was a real vibrancy to the town - a great place to spend the day and evening! We took the kids home and they sat and played lego in front of a movie before heading to bed.
