Kya Travels
Today I woke up relatively early, grabbed some things and went downstairs to where I got ready and skyped Tiana. After a quick chat I left her on the screen and logged in to do the Maths test that the uni had sent me to complete my enrollment, then started to make my way through it. The first half was ridiculously easy, then they started getting harder and harder, and I got Tiana to help me out a little when I couldn't remember how something was done. My first Maths test in 7 years! I think I did pretty well! When I finally finished it, we had a bit more of a chat before hanging up. I went upstairs to wake Darren, then as he was getting ready I started to pack up my things. We packed our bags then gave the room a bit of a tidy up before heading downstairs. We hung out in the living room for a bit, then we were going to have the leftovers from the other night, the bread, pesto and garlic butter, but I couldn't work out how to use the oven to toast the bread a bit, so instead I melted some of the butter in a pan and fried the bread til it was toasty, then we put the pesto on top. It was so delicious! Mmmmm! We still had a bit of time left after lunch, so we wifi'd for a while, then the neighbours from behind the house came round. The girl was picking something up for a friend, and they also had a message from Karina about our bus times that they passed onto us. When they left, we tidied up the kitchen a bit, left a thankyou note for Karina, then grabbed all our things, and headed off. We had planned to catch a bus out to the Megabus stop, but we couldn't be bothered with it, and it was only a 40 minute walk so we headed out to walk there instead. We stopped by the Turkish bakery so Darren could pick up one of the €2 Turkish pizzas, then went walking. It was a very uneventful walk, but I was quite hot by the time we got there, despite the chilly weather, due to my big jacket and the bags! We arrived at the stop about half an hour early, so we sat inside the hotel it was next to and got to use their wifi for a bit. When the bus arrived, we chucked our bags underneath and got on the bus and started to make our way out of the European mainland and back to London. The end of a chapter! In only 5 hours we'll be back where we started! We stopped at the border of France and the UK where we had to go inside a building to the border control. The guy I got was cruisey, but the lady Darren got grilled him a bit about his plans, wanted to see his return flight ticket, and to know how he was supporting himself! It was a little intense, but didn't take too long, then we got back on the bus and headed to the train. We were going through the channel tunnel over to London, and the whole bus actually drove into the train, which looked more like a giant shipping container, and parked there while the train drove across the channel! We got off and walked through some of the carriages to the toilets, and watched as the train started to take off. It was pretty cool, but felt strange, and I thought I was going to get travel sick from the motion, so I lay down on my seat on the bus and closed my eyes for a while. I ended up falling asleep and woke up when we were back on the road halfway to London! We made our way through the London traffic for another hour or two before finally arriving at Victoria station. We got off the bus, grabbed our bags and went to the metro. I still had our Oyster cards in my wallet from 5 months ago, so we tried them, and apparently they still had some cash on them! Bonus! So we didn't have to spend anything to get out to Edgware rd. When we got off the metro, we walked up towards our hostel, and realised it was literally around the corner from the place we'd stayed in last time, in Paddington! So I already kind of had my bearings! We checked in, and dropped off our bags and met a room mate who was sick (and sounded very sick!). We were not happy about that. If we get sick again, I will be very annoyed! So we went back downstairs where we saw a guy on the couch that we recognised. It was Rowan, who we had met in Cesky Krumlov! So random! We had a chat with him for a bit, and it turns out he was catching a plane back to Australia the next morning, and had to leave at 3am, so he hadn't paid for a room, and was just going to stay up until he had to go! So we said we'd chat with him later and went for a walk to find some food. The street we walked down was full of heaps of restaurants with a lot of Indian and middle eastern style food, as it was a very ethnic area. We wandered for a bit, then ended up finding an Indian restaurant that looked cheap. (Its all about the price from here on in, London is expensive!) The food was actually quite tasty, but not the best we've ever had. I think it may have just tasted better because its been so long since we've had Indian food! We ordered one beer, but they brought over two, so I ended up having a whole one. Then we realised they were £5 each!! Should have sent the other one back!! After dinner we walked back to the hostel and spent some time chilling on the couch and chatting with Rowan and some of the others, then Rowan plugged his hard drive into the TV and we got to watch some South Park! It was awesome. After watching one or two too many episodes we went up to bed where we got a horrible sleep, with two sick guys in our room, and a noisy guy below me who came in after us and decided I didn't need my charger plugged in, so he unplugged it and put his own in... When I asked him to put it back, he said he would after 5 minutes to charge his. Oh well.
