Kya Travels
We had another sleep in today, then got ready and went down for a bowl of leftover salad from last night. After a chat with Karina for a while, we headed down to Ledebergplein so Darren could get a Turkish pizza wrap from the Turkish bakery down the road. When we got there though, it was closed, so we went to a fries shop instead, and got our regular special sauce with samurai sauce on our fries. We must have eaten enough fries lately though, because we couldn't even finish them! When we finished we went back home and I spent some time working out how to get to the bus stop for tomorrow's trip back to London, and looking at photos on Facebook of my little brothers year 12 graduation ceremony and being jealous that I wasn't there! We had a bit of chill out time after that, doing our own things, Darren had a nap, Karina was practising her face painting, and I had a few bookings and things to organise. After a while spent just chilling, and when Darren woke up, we got ready, and left Karina to do a few things she had to do still and walked down to Ledebergplein, where we jumped on a tram into the city. We walked for a bit having a bit of a window shop at some chocolates, then went to a souvenir shop to see if Gent had a better sticker than Brussels did. But they didn't. Their stickers were very generic, just shields and emblems, and the mannekin pis one we got from Brussels was funny, so we decided to use that one. We kept walking along the road, and went into a chocolate shop for a look, but didn't buy anything. We wandered down past the still-not-open Christmas markets. They'll probably open the day after we leave, being December 1st! We wandered down to one of the bars we'd drank at the other night, where Karina had told us to go to find the best Belgian Waffles in town. Then we went to the chocolate shop next door to it. The man in there was really nice and talked us through all the types of chocolate they had in there, so we bought a small mixed bag, and a bag of noses, which are apparently the much better type (in taste and work ethic) than the ones the guy in the stall was trying to sell us the other day! Then we went back to the waffle shop and got a waffle with pear and chocolate to share, which was so rich and yummy. The only problem was the tiny little plastic spoons we'd been given to eat it with, and the fact that the chocolate went everywhere!! When we were done we wandered a bit more around town, stopping at a pharmacy for some eye drops, then started to make our way back to the tram stop. But when we got there we decided we wanted to walk a bit more, so we kept going on foot, following the tracks so we didn't get lost. We thought when we got sick of walking we would just jump on at the next stop, but we ended up walking all the way back. It was a pretty chilly night, but it was fine as long as you kept moving! And it was pretty too, with the last of the massive yellow autumn leaves lining the street. When we got back, Karina wasn't quite back from her errands yet, so we hung out on the couch, wifi-ing, blogging and guitaring. When she got back Darren and I went around the corner and picked up some fries and took them back to the house, where we all shared a lot of chips with a lot of delicious sauces, including a new one, which was honey-ish and tasty, then we just chilled out for a while. When it was time, we left and walked up the street a while to get to the jam session that Julie had told us about the other night. We got there and walked inside through a ridiculously crowded and smokey room, where we found her and gave her a hug as we squished our way through the crowd, then got some beers at the bar and went to the back of the room, where there was a spare table for us to stand around. The place was so ridiculously smokey, (and not just with tobacco!) it was really gross! I'm so glad we have no smoking inside laws back home!! The band that was playing were doing a concert before the jam session started, and they were playing very jazzy, chilled tunes, which took me back to the Ballarat days! We had a couple of beers and a chat up the back there, then when the set finished, we decided we had to leave, as Darren's asthma wasn't agreeing with all the smoke! So we said goodbye to Julie and squished our way back out and headed back home. Karina put on some washing, so I threw my smokey gross jumper that I was wearing in with her stuff, so it would be nice and clean tomorrow, then we chilled in the living room, having a cuppa and a chat, and transferring photos from Karina's camera to my iPad, then we said goodbye to Karina, who would be gone before we got up tomorrow, and not home again til after we left! We were pretty sad to say goodbye to her, as we had had such an amazing time there. When we'd said our thankyou's and goodbyes we all headed up to bed.
