Kya Travels
This morning we packed up our bags and said goodbye to our dorm mates. We went out to the common room where we said goodbye to our cleaner friend, who told us its people like us that are the reason she does her job! Nawww! She gave us an almost empty cordial bottle that we could fill up and take, and she gave Darren a pair of sunnies that had been left and not claimed, which was great since he had lost his sunnies back in Ireland! We went downstairs and checked out, as Daniel, Laura and Meike were coming down to check out too, so we said goodbye to them a second time! We started walking down to the bus stop, and we saw them again on the other side of the road to us! So we got a third goodbye in too!! We stopped at a small sandwich bar for some breakfast/lunch/brunch then walked to the bus stop. The bus stop was in between two kind of grassy areas, and there was a whole gaggle of geese crossing the road! There were probably 30 or more! Then a bus came along, and half of them stopped for the bus then kept crossing! They're so street smart its weird!! We waited for the bus for a bit, before Darren realized he'd left his guitar in the hostel! So we power walked back to pick it up. On the way we passed our friends again, so we got a fourth goodbye in! We got back to the hostel in record time, and they lent us a key and Darren ran upstairs. Luckily our cleaner friend had grabbed it for him! We handed the keys back and power walked back to the bus stop. Not a fun thing to do with a chesty cough/cold! The bus came and we jumped on, and started our trip back down to London. A pretty boring couple of hours later, we got to a bus stop in what looked like the middle of nowhere, but was actually called East Midland Parkway. From there we got on a train to take us the rest of the way to London. We got in to Kings Cross, topped up our Oyster cards and jumped on the tube to Edgware rd, where we walked up the block to a pub called The Green Man, which was connected to our hostel. We checked in and went up to our room, where we discovered triple bunks!! First time I've ever seen that! I got the bottom one, which was on the ground, but the next bunk was so close it was like a little coffin in there! But it was cozy and nice. I contacted Amy, my friend from work back home, because she had flown in to London that morning, and it turned out she was staying literally a few blocks away! So we organized to meet her in the pub downstairs, then went down for a drink while we waited for her. She walked in, and it was so exciting to see her!! We all got a drink and a pizza each there, as they had a cider festival on in the bar, so they had cheap deals on pizza and cider. The food came out, and the pizzas were MASSIVE!! Should have just shared a couple between us! After that we all went for a walk up the street to have a look around. Right up the end was Hyde Park and when we got there, there was some kind of show or festival type thing on, so we went in for a look around. Amy and I went on one of those swing chair rides together which was pretty fun! (Yes, we're just big kids...) Then we headed back out, as there wasn't much going on, most people were packing up and all the bands had finished for the day. On the walk back up the street we stopped in at Baskin Robbins where Darren and Amy got some ice cream and Amy, who was just learning about the currency and getting her head around the conversion, paid about £15 for her ice cream, when the cashier gave her change for a 10 instead of a 20 pound note! They couldn't see clearly on their cameras either, so there was nothing she could do! They were pretty nice though, and offered us free ice cream if we came in the next day! Then we headed back to the hostel, saying goodbye to Amy on the way and went up to bed, while Lyle stayed down to watch the band they had on. Turns out we should have just stayed up anyway, as neither of us could sleep at all, between the colds we had and the constant interruptions that come with staying in hostels, then the loud snoring of a drunk guy in the next bed. I think all up I got maybe 3 hours sleep, and Darren even less than that!
