Kya Travels
We got up today and went without breakfast, in order to hunt down an 'English Breakfast'. So we went for a walk down the street, passed quite a few places, but just kept walking for a bit. Felt nice to stretch our legs out after the cramped hostel rooms :P We got to the little cafe for breakfast, ordered, and got our meals. Lyle got some black pudding, cos we told him he had to (but didn't tell him what it was). He enjoyed it, said it was quite nice and a little salty. When we finished eating, we got the waiter to tell him what it was... (Pretty much cooked and congealed pigs blood, looks kind of like a sausage) He went a little pale, and Darren told scab jokes all the way home. :P After this, we were headed onto the tube and into London. At the station I was asked directions by a local, and I was able to answer them, and tell them which train to catch. Made me feel pretty cool! We got into the city, and went to a shop called Primark, cos Darren wanted to buy some shorts. Primark is basically the UK's version of Big W or Kmart kinda stores. Heaps of cheap clothes! It was mega, and busy! There was a line for the change rooms. And they were the boys change rooms!! Crazy... Anyway, Darren and Lyle both got a few things, then we had to rush off, cos we wanted to get to Westminster Abbey for the evensong service, and we were running out of time. Then Darren realized he'd forgotten his sunnies.. So he went back to Primark to try to find them. Then realized he didn't even bring them from the hostel! So we missed out on the service. Instead we went for a wander along the Thames river. It was a really nice day, the sun was out, and Darren was cooking. He decided he'd go find a toilet to get changed into his new shorts. We found one, but they charge you 50p to use the toilets! After a few 'p' jokes, Darren thought he'd just get changed right there by the building. So that was kind of funny. Feeling a lot cooler we kept walking, and walked along London Bridge and past Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. They are massive! It's crazy how little justice the photos do to the splendor of those buildings! Then we headed back to Camden on the tube, and went to meet a girl named Ausra. She hosts a show on a radio station in Cambridge, and had played our band on it before. Together we went to The Blues Kitchen (take two!) and had some dinner. The menu is a southern American style, with lots of things like ribs, burgers and even alligator! We all had burgers (the bean burger was amazing!), and Ausra had a vegan salad. We sat around and had a chat for a while, about music, life, politics etc etc etc, and at one point It was getting a bit full on! When we were done eating and drinking there, there was still an hour til the music started, so we decided to move on. Will have to do The Blues Kitchen ANOTHER time!! We went over to The Camden Eye for another pint, and half-watched, half-laughed-our-heads-off at the movie 'Birds' which was playing on the tv there. After that we thought we'd all head back for another drink at the hostel, but when we got there, they said we weren't allowed to take people into the common room, so we just hung outside for another half hour-ish until Ausra had to go catch her train. Then we went in to bed.
