Kya Travels
After being woken up by everyone this morning, Darren and I kept sleeping for a while before waking up and getting ready. It was the afternoon by the time we left the hostel, then we walked down the street to the Vodafone shop. It seemed really busy though, so we decided to get some food first. We walked down the same street as last night and went into a little takeaway place called The Chicken Spot, where we got a small pizza each for only £2.50 each! And we got to pick our toppings! They were actually pretty tasty too, with a delicious deep pan base! Cheap and delicious and unhealthy! After we ate, we headed back to Vodafone, where this time, there was no one there! Score! So we went in, and got £10 of credit put on Darren's phone so we could contact people while we were here, then we headed down to the metro and made our way, on the tube, to Knightsbridge, where we were going to be meeting Hinn. We were a bit early, so Darren used the opportunity to call Elizabeth in Northern Ireland to ask about their Christmas plans, but they were a bit busy, so he said he'd call again tomorrow. We went back inside and waited for Hinn, then when he arrived, we walked together up the road and went to Harrod's, which is the most expensive shop in the world! We wandered through there a bit just having a bit of a laugh at the prices. We went through the makeup area, through a massive food area, then past the watches. I saw a watch for £2000 and thought that was ridiculous, but then they just kept getting more expensive as we walked! The most expensive one I saw was, no joke, a £700,000 watch! With the conversion that would be almost 1.4 million dollars! For a watch! And it was ugly! We went up the escalators, which had their own room full of Egyptian style statues, as well as a huge shrine to princess Diana, then walked through some clothes sections to the Pet Kingdom! They had cute puppies for only £1500 each, and a sign about how to adopt a dog from them, you had to bring your whole family (including any pets) in for an interviewing process! We wandered a bit more, and found a £70 collar that Max would like, and dog beds that looked more comfortable than most the hostel beds we've stayed in, then we decided to head out. We made our way to the front, where the door was opened by a door man in a green top hat and waist coat, then we walked down the street towards Hyde Park, to go to the famous Winter Wonderland. We made our way to the entrance, where there was a massive queue that we waited in for a while, then when we got in, we wandered around for a while. There were a lot of carnival stalls and rides and things as we walked in, but we made our way over to a pub, where we got ourselves a mug of hot mulled apple cider, then sat down warming our hands for a while as we drank, then continued wandering through. We went past Christmas market stalls, heaps of food stalls, more pubs with music, and more carnival stalls and rides, before walking down another strip of markets to the exit. It wasn't what I had expected at all. It was pretty much just a Christmas themed fair, whereas I thought it would be a lot more about things to look at, like with fake snow everywhere, and snowmen and more of that kind of thing. But there you go. It's just another place to spend your money! At least admission is free! When we left, we headed around Hyde Park and walked up Edgware rd, and realised how close we were, and that we could have just walked there in the first place, rather than catch what turned out to be a very out of the way metro. We went all the way up, almost to our hostel and went to another Indian place we'd passed yesterday, where they had a cheap buffet dinner. They even cooked up an extra lentil dhal for me, so I had some variety too. The food was okay, but nothing special really. We had a good chat with Hinn over dinner, then said goodbye when he headed back to the train and we headed back to our hostel. We had a chat with a guy from Paris for a while as we warmed up in the common room for a bit, and watched some TV and used some wifi before going up to bed. We got to our room to find someone's things on Darren's bed! So after asking everyone in the room whose it was, and discovering it was another girls stuff, we took it downstairs to try sort out, as there were no spare beds in the room! The girl whose things it was, Heidi, was at the bar, so we explained to the old guy at the bar what happened, and he didn't seem to understand. There were four of us from the room (including Heidi) in the bar, and he kept telling us there must only be two people in the room, when we kept telling him there were three! So annoying! Eventually we told him he had to come upstairs and sort it out, so we all went upstairs, had to wake the three sleeping people, and all stood in the room to show him there were 7 people and only 6 beds! Eventually he understood, and sorted out for Heidi to go into another room that actually had two spare beds (and was only supposed to have one..) and we were all able to finally get to sleep!
