Thursday 24th September - The Chapel of Notre dame de la Santé
We were headed for the Medieval City and had to walk the streets to get there. Along the way Jannie tried on some Chukka Boots and had the girl hold them aside for her to pick up on our way home.
Through the Square Gambetta and up Rue de Pont Vieux towards the The Old Bridge which was built in 14th century. This is a typical medieval bridge and was the only link between the bastide and the medieval City. Crossing the River Aude it is today reserved for pedestrians and provides quick access to the ramparts.
The Chapel du Notre Dame was built in 1527 and has stood beside St Jacques Hospital ever since. It is popular with both locals and tourists and it marks the start of the Pyrenean foothills path leading towards St Jean Pied du Port, on the way to Santiago de Compostella.
