This morning we bought Oyster cards and caught the underground from Westminster to Monument station. Nearby, we saw the 'The Monument' to the Great Fire of London, Leadenhall Market, and the Gherkin before continuing on to Tower Gateway Station. There we caught the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to Cutty Sark.
I had wanted to see the Cutty Sark for years, and was disappointed when we last visited in 2010 because the ship was undergoing restoration and was not able to be viewed. Now the restoration is complete and I think they've done a pretty good job. We had a look through all three decks which are well displayed with audio-visual effects and we had lunch in the cafe which is under the ship in the base of the dry-dock.
Afterwards we walked up the hill to look over the Royal Observatory and the Prime Meridian and also to take in the view over Greenwich and the Docklands.
Back down the hill, we jumped on a bus to North Greenwich and walked around the O2 arena which is absolutely huge and has a vast array of shops and restaurants around the outside edge, all under the cover of the domed roof. From there we walked a bit further and took a ride on the Emirates Air Line which is a very high cable car across the Thames, providing spectacular views.
From there, we caught the DLR from Royal Victoria to Poplar, changed trains to Canary Wharf and then caught the subway back to Waterloo.
