This morning we travelled north through the towns of Tuam and Dunmore before turning east towards Ballinlough.
We stopped at stately Clonalis House, ancestral home of the O'Conors, descendants of the last High Kings of Ireland. We were shown through by the wife of the last O'Conor to inherit the property. The house was full of original furniture, art pieces, a huge library and paintings of all the O'Conors down through the years. I couldn't take photos inside unfortunately, but there is a website 'clonalis.com'.
We continued through the town of Boyle, past Boyle Abbey, where we entered a freeway for the drive to Sligo where we stopped for lunch. We also stopped to view the poet W.B.Yeats' grave at Drumcliff.
We the crossed into Northern Ireland briefly to visit the Beleek fine china factory where we were taken on a tour by our guide, Tracey, who had a very strong Irish accent. We also looked over the shop and museum. Upon leaving Beleek, we crossed the border a couple of times before we finally ended up in Northern Ireland at the City of Derry / Londonderry.
