We did the tourist thing today and went on the open top bus around Perth. We were surprised how good it was! Being on the top enabled us to see things from a different perspective and the commentary was informative. Even Mick said he learnt a lot he didn't know.
Most of the old buildings were built by convicts in the 1800s from sandstone and many look similar to English buildings. The famous London Court is a popular tourist attraction.
The bus took us up to Kings Park which is beautiful and the views across Perth from here really are spectacular. The Swan River stretches as far as the eye can see and boats regularly go up and down. There are different types of gardens displaying a variety of native plants from eucalyptus to flowering plants such as kangaroo paws.
The bus took us around the park and I had no idea it was so big. The lemon gum trees lining the roads were all planted in honour of a soldier who died in the wars.
We alighted the bus at Barrack Square and proceeded to the Bell Tower. This was built in 2000 and the bells came rom St. Martins in the Field in London because the building of St. Martins was deteriorating under the weight of the bells. So Perth acquired them. It was pure luck that when we arrived a bell ringing demonstration was just starting! So we had a go at bell ringing. It needed strong abs but I was told I was a natural!! Not sure what it sounded like outside when we all played together.
We then climbed the tower for some more great views.
It was a super day!

Jenny and Kim It all looks fantastic. You must be exhausted with so much to take in. Will you be ringing the bells in Chelmsford Cathedral? Even in Essex is it interesting to sit on the top of the bus!!!!!! Keep the blogs up. It is great reading them over breakfast.
Joan&Peter A bus eh! Well done Mick!!! Please don't ring the bells in a Halstead they can drive people mad!!! Glad you're having such a great time.
