Up until today we have done very little during our time in Busselton except relax and visit friends of Maureen for dinner, afternoon tea or just drinks! Busselton is such a great place to relax because it's very sleepy and the calming sea 3 minutes away and after all our travels over east it is what we needed.
But today we went on a mystery trip with some frinds of Maureen. They picked us up at 9:00 and set off towards Augusta on the south coast. Terry wanted to take us to ploaces we hadn't visited before but we had travelled a lot of the SW so we had been to some of them.
Morning tea was in a lay-by in the middle of the karri forest. As soon as we stopped we were joined by about 5 other vehicles containing people of different nationalities. Everybody chats and talks about where they are from and going to.
It is a beautiful drive through the forests and although we have done it before everytime is spectacular.
We carried on to Hamelin Bay (see photo). Nothing much here but it used to have a jetty to ship the karri wood. When karri was overtaken by Jarrah wood production the jetty fell into disrepair and now there is only a caravan park here and a lovely beach once again.
Lunch was a picnic at Augusta beside the bay overlooking Molloy island. It was so quiet and peaceful and although it was a cloudy and windy day it was still warm sitting outside and having lunch 'al fresco'.
Terry was determined that we would not travel any road twice so we went back a different way. We turned off onto a side road and visited a gallery that contained some wonderful things - local paintings, things made from Jarrah wood and other locally made crafts. They had some furniture made from Jarrah that was really beautiful but was very pricey!!
On the way back we went through Margaret River, home of the renowned wine and crossed the Margaret River!
The last part of our trip was along small roads with farms on either side and occasionally we would see wild emus and Mick spotted some kangaroos but I missed them.
Tomorrow we go back to Perth and will probably have a quiet weekend although we will be going out on Saturday night to celebrate Mick's nephews birthday. The next blog will probably be on Monday when we arrive at Kalgoorlie, provided we have wi-fi in the hotel!
