Test Run
Perfectly for our last day in London we went to the Museum of London & explored their great exhibits covering the city story from pre Roman to current times. There's a place to see some remains of the original Roman Wall which was the city boundary, lots of relics, maps etc. A story & model of the Great Fire with readings from spectators including John Evelyn and a very moving film experience of The Blitz with real people telling their stories. Museums & galleries here are free which is a good offset to the costly tours of places like Wimbledon. Next stop was the glass domed St Pancras Station for a pastie lunch & a look around then to Baker St & a walk to the famous Lords Cricket Ground. We joined a tour group with many Indian people & spent an hour enjoying this familiar place. Saw the original "Ashes" urn which is tiny & lots of memorabilia in the museum then went into the Long Room & the visitors dressing room. Once again many Australian names on the boards & paintings in the hallways. We sat in the stand & climbed to the top of the media centre for a great view of the ground which only holds 29,800 people - probably makes it much more civilized than a day at the cricket at home. England vs Sri Lanka starts next week - must watch! Walked through the vast Regents Park with groups of cricketers & soccer matches among the picnicking Londoners. There are so many green spaces & parks here that it almost never feels too crowded & city like - there's always a space to ride a bike or run. Followed the Regents canal to Camden Lock & happened on a groovy market with food & clothes & lots of people. Back to pack & last dinner in London - it's been wonderful to be here again after 30 years.

Eve Yes, we had lots of people from the subcontinent on our tour of Lords too! Did you steal any grass? I did! (It was on a mower wheel!)
