Test Run
Spent the morning touring the Morgan Motor Company in Malvern which has been on the site for over 100 years. We both really enjoyed it - a very informative & inclusive tour through all areas of production of these unique sports cars. The workshops looked & smelled like Finecraft Scale Models or Al's garage & the work is virtually all done by hand. It was wonderful to be able to just walk past all the individual areas of production & stand to watch a man tapping out metal with a hammer, another cutting the bonnet edge to fit or assembling the chassis. This is the last British owned car - sad that MG, Rover, Jaguar etc are all foreign now & I expect it's the only car in the world that you can have completely made to your own specifications - right down to the thousands of colour choices for duco & leather trim! We've seen lots of these open cars cruising the Cotswolds, so there must be quite a big market here for these expensive pieces of craft! Lunch with a view into Wales at The Kettle Sings just below the hilltop where hang gliders were soaring, then into Great Malvern to explore the town. Looked in the Priory which was a Benedictine monastery & is over 900 years old. It was built with lovely pink colored stone & has ornate ancient stained glass windows & medieval tiles. Did the audio tour of the town museum & learned that Elgar was born here & radar was developed during WWII. There is also a famous spa here & the water is so pure it has no minerals in it at all. I filled my water bottle at the town fountain where it comes from the spring straight out of the wall - delicious.
