Thursday
While there have been things on in town each day since Tuesday today is the first day that anything really interested us. We'd also forgotten to buy the tickets to the races yesterday so we walked into town and bought tickets for Friday ($20 each) and decided we'd get the tickets for Saturday at the track.
Martin had a hotdog for lunch and I went to the fish truck for prawns. Six "bloody big king" prawns and sauce - yum yum yum. While we were there we were given a taste is smoked Spanish makeral and it was delicious. We couldn't get any on this trip cause we'd walked but would be back another day the buy some.
We walked over to the pub for the Equine Flu Races. This event started in 2010 when the races were cancelled due to the Equine Flu virus. The event consist of 6 plush toy horses each on a sheet of cardboard. The cardboard has a long piece of string and the other end attached to a full can of beer. For $20 you pay yo be the jockey and stand at one end with the beer can. On Go you have to wind the string round the can - fist horse across the line is the winner. They have several races and other ridiculous events in between with all the proceeds go to Royal Flying Doctors.
The event was MC'd by ST Ruth who is one half of a comedy duo - The Crack Up Sisters. She was very funny and we decided we'd have to keep an eye out to see if they are ever performing near home.
On our walk home we called in at the caravan park to talk to Chris and Peter. Martin joined them for a beer and on their suggestion we walked through the park to the road. They are really packed in like sardines and on very rocky ground. We are so glad we chose to camp on the common - we have more room, better ground and it doesn't cost $30 a night.
