Saturday
Martin and I had another talk this morning and I think he finally gets it. There is no way I can stand knee deep (let alone waist deep) in creek and river crossings up here. I know people do it every day but I just can't do it. We left this morning around 9am after packing up then showering and headed for Bramwell Roadhouse via the Batavia Downs road. We stopped and had a look at Moreton Telegraph Station as we'll be staying here on the way back.
Got to Bramwell around midday and unhooked the camper but didn't do a full set up. We are at the junction of the Old Telegraph Track (OTT) and the Peninsular Development Road. Tomorrow we start on the OTT and our first creek crossing - Palm Creek - is just a few km's down the track. We go down to have a look and I can't believe 4WDs make it down here. It reminds me of the pictures I've seen of the notorious gunshot crossing. It is basically a vertical drop. We make our way along a track to the right where we were told there was an easier bypass track. Still looks scary to me and tomorrow we'll have the trailers. Mud Duck decides to have a go and makes it look easy.
We return back to camp and relax for the afternoon. Another couple arrive (Pat and George) and set up near us alongside a shelter and table. It's a grey overcast day and there are a few brief showers. We joinPat and George under the shelter and learn they are from Bargara near Bundaberg. Grant and Leslie have a unit at Bargara that we've stayed at so we are familiar with the area.
We have dinner and just as we are washing up it starts to rain again - not heavy but just enough to be annoying. We sit under Mud Ducks shelter and talk for a while then it's showers and off the bed.
