Wednesday
Another overcast day so we pack up quickly then have breakfast. Today we continue to head south toward Musgrave Station. We stop at Archer River Roadhouse and have some hot chips and gravy - yum.
While ordering them I see on the counter salted plums - they are bright red and look a bit sparkly about the size of a mintie. I have been seeing These everywhere since about Mission Beach so I asked the guy whether they were lollies or actually plums. He explained that they were an Asian thing and very popular in Northern Australia - FNQ and Darwin etc and that the kids live them. He said they were an acquired taste as he opened a bag and gave me one. Before I out the whole thing in my mouth he suggested I take a very small bite off the end which I did. I have to say that it was THE most disgusting thing I have ever tasted. I couldn't even swallow the tiny bit I had tried but left the shop to spit it in the he bin. Martin couldn't stop laughing and only wished he'd had his camera out. Some guys behind us said "looks like she just tried the salted plums". It was even worse than the boiled peanuts we tried at Kingaroy in 1999.
We drove to the quarantine station - all OK - and then into Coen. Just before we arrived in town the phones started going off indicating we had signal again. We pulled up in town and checked emails, messages, bank account balances and Facebook. Oh, and we put on a power all too. Apparently Katelyn now has a tattoo!
We arrived at Musgrave at about 2pm and set up camp. I put on a couple of loads of washing as we are both running out of shorts and undies. All pegged on the line and sitting down for a read when it starts to lightly sprinkle. Not for long though before the sun comes out again hot and strong.
We've already decided to buy dinner at the roadhouse tonight so no cooking for me. Martin and I have both been surprised by the number of places that you can buy your meals up here.
After dinner (burger and chips) we go back to camp. There is a very noisy drunk group near us who are starting to argue so we are not up long tonight.
