Wednesday
Up early this morning as we have to be at the dock in Seisia by 7.45am. We get on the ferry and sit out the front. Beautiful trip over as the grey skies cleared the closer we got to the he islands.
Leaving the ferry we board a bus for the TI tour. Sue, the bus driver is very informative explaining the history of the island. We went up to Green Hill where we looked at the remains of the fort. Three cannons remain and there is a museum in the underground tunnels. Back on the bus we drove around the island and stopped at the cemetery for a brief look and then past some churches and back to the dock for our ferry ride to Horn Island.
A quick trip over then a bus to the museum for a hot, all you can eat lunch. Yum. Back on the bus and our driver Liberty was amazing. He and his wife do the tours (one bus each) and they are passionate about the Islands World War 2 history. We looked at the airstrip and sone bunkers as well as the site of a plane crash. Two ferry rides back and we're were back at Seisia by 4.30.
We had cleverly booked in for dinner tonight at the restaurant and headed up for drinks, bacon and tomato bruschetta and then grilled salmon, potato and sour cream and Greek salad. Martin had pork belly with paw paw bruschetta and veggies. The meals were lovely and the view amazing - a spectacular sunset tonight.b
