First thing this morning we made our way over to the visitors centre at the head of the peninsular. We couldn't get our heads round having to pay $70 to see wild albatrosses or another $70 to go and see some yellow eyed penguins that we had just seen for free back in Oamaru. After spending the morning in Oamaru we set off down to the Otago peninsular, at Dunedin. We got about 30 mins into the journey past more stunning coastal scenery when we realised that there would be no more petrol stations on the way so we had to turn round and drive a nervous 30 mins back to Oamaru with the petrol light on. Today we headed off for Oamaru. A small coastal town which is home to one of the world's rarest penguins - The yellow eyed penguin. Oh, and also another really good cheese factory! We decided to head back to Lake Tekapo. The weather ruined it a little bit the first time so with a sunny clear day this morning we set off back to the same campsite as last time. It was worth coming back for - when all the fog had lifted you could see the enitre lake with all the mountains surrounding it. At last, the fog lifted and it turns out that our campsite is completely surrounded by huge snowy mountains and a large blue lake - we could even see Mount Cook in the far distance! We made our way over the Mount Cook village and parked in the carpark of New Zealands most expensive hotel, the iinfamous Hermitage, from here we set off walking through Hooker Valley.
