This morning we took the puppy of the hostel, Mea for a walk into the nearby fields before we set off for the Coromandel Peninsual along with Rowan and Abby.
Our first stop was at Hot Water Beach. Due to volcanic activity below the beach, if you dig a hole down through the sand, hot water comes up to the surface, so with a little work you can create your own thermal hot pool! None of us could really be bothered doing this, we stayed to dipping our feets in the holes, but it was fun watching everyone burning in the water and running into the cold sea to cool down.
We then stopped off at Cathederal Cove, which was the location of where some of Narnia was filmed. It is a beautiful beach surrounded by limestone cliffs and islands in the distance, the main attraction spot is the impressive huge limestone archway which stretches the full width of the beach that you can walk through.
Not wanting to drive much further we spent the night parked down the side of a hostel in Whitianga!
