Again, another cloudy and dull morning and we couldnt even see the lake that we were parked right next too, so we hit the road for Mount Cook. The views on this drive were nothing like what we have seen over the last couple of days, and were fairly disappointing - we were more or less driving through a cloud! Claire still wasn't so good this morning so we went to the docs and begrudgingly paid 55$ for an appointment. It was a good job as the doc diagnosed a serious throat infection and a 10 day course of penicillin. So at least it's raining outside still so we arn't missing out on anything from the throat infection. Woke up to rain this morning which is a little disappointing as we were planning on heading to Peel Forest, an area famous for huge trees, great scenery and walking. But with the weather being what it was, and Claire's throat is still quite bad so we gave it a miss. Left Akaroa for the town of Methven, which is next to the popular ski resort of Mt Hutt. We stopped off for some lunch at Lyttleton where all the big expensive houses are set up on the hill overlooking what looks like a huge lake, until you get into the centre and greeted by an ugly industrial harbour- perfect way to destroy scenery! The weather wasnt up to much this morning and Claire's cold has got a lot worse so after going into the town after lunch and nipping to the chemist, we hired a film and spent the rest of the day staying warm and dry. Plus our 3rd night at the campsite was free (courtesy of the owner) so we would have been a bit daft to turn it down!
