Today we headed off for Oamaru. A small coastal town which is home to one of the world's rarest penguins - The yellow eyed penguin. Oh, and also another really good cheese factory!
So after walking away from Whitestone Cheese Factory another $20 don we headed to the beach in hope of seeing the penguins. We made our way to one of the hides overlooking the beach and waited. It wasn't too long before we started seeing them appear out of the ocean. They are a little different to the little blue ones we saw back in Melbourne - Firstly they aren't blue and little they are igger and have yellow faces, secondly these ones come out of the sea on their own nt in the commando teams. Once out of the ocean they scaled the steep hill at the back of the beach in no time and were quite close to us watching us wach them.
The wind and cold ended our visit (the cheese and biscuits was also quite tempting) so we made out way back to the site.
