After spending the morning in Oamaru we set off down to the Otago peninsular, at Dunedin. We got about 30 mins into the journey past more stunning coastal scenery when we realised that there would be no more petrol stations on the way so we had to turn round and drive a nervous 30 mins back to Oamaru with the petrol light on. Fortunatley we made it, and we set off again, this time not bothering with the scenic route and just going down the highway.
On the way we stopped at Maraoki Rocks, which are some boulders on the beach that are millions of years old and are almost perfect spheres. We also stopped at Elephant Rocks, which was the filmsite for the Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe. It was very impressive, unfortunatley we didn't get to see Aslan, and there was no witch to offer us some turkish delight.
Once we got to Dunedin we made our way to (in Dave's eyes) one of the most amazing landmarks in the world - The worlds steepest street! We debated taking the campervan up it but decided that the possibility of the brakes failing causing us to roll back down into the busy main road at speed was a bit of a risk. So we walked it, well practically crawled it and had a rather dissappointing go at rolling down it.
We drove through Dunedin which looked like a very nice city and and made our way around the Otago Peninsular, about 30 mins driving round the peninsular road we realised the last ATM was back in the city so we had to turn round again and go and get some money out - That's twice today that we have wasted an hour from our own idiocy.
Well, we got to the campsite a lot later than expected, mainly due to our delays and we had missed all the tours for the Albatross and Penguins so we had nothing to do. We went to the lounge in the evening but soon left because a woman had got hold of the remote control who refused to watch anything for more than 30seconds and just flicked constantly through all the channels!
