This morning we set off to Ashburton. We had earlier decided it looked a decent place to spend the night, however on arriving at both the 2 campsites we quickly decided against it as they looked more like Gypsy sites than holiday parks.
We continued on another hour or so and got to Cromwell, where we found a nice placec to stay.
Cromwell is a quiet little town where you can hear a pin drop. Walking through the perfect streets we couldn't hear a sound, it was almost eerie.
We checked out an old cemetry, as you do, where they burried the first pioneers to the area in the 1800s who were subject to horrendous conditions. One of the gravestones which we won't forget was of a family of 4 children and their parents who all died in the space of 2 years to disease. A young daughter and son even died on the same day.
There is a reconstruction of Cromwell's old town which was originally swept away in a flood years back and is interesting to look round. From the old stables to the cottage of the local tooth puller.
