This morning we headed over to the famous region of Milford Sound. We had originally planned to do the 3 day Milford Track walk, but it doesnt officially open till October and the prices can be a little shocking at nearly $400 each!! To do a walk!
On the way we stopped off at Mirror Lakes which is known for its reflection of the mountains, trees and grass above it. It was however really cloudy when we got there so we couldnt really see much.
Next was a lookout spot over the valley, which was where we had our first encounter with the Kea. New Zealand's only Alpine Parrot. They are very curious and arent scared of anyone, not even cars as they try and pull the rubber out from the windows. A bit like a monkey, but green and parrot shaped!
In the afternoon the weather had brightened a little so we booked onto one of the Milford Sound Cruises. It was beautiful! We passed waterfall after waterfall, the tallest mountain in the world rising directly out of the sea at a mile high, snowy peaks and even seals basking on the rocks. Milford Sound definitely lived up to its reputation - amazing!
