We decided to head back to Lake Tekapo. The weather ruined it a little bit the first time so with a sunny clear day this morning we set off back to the same campsite as last time. It was worth coming back for - when all the fog had lifted you could see the enitre lake with all the mountains surrounding it. We had a look at the historic church built by the first settlers in the area. We also had a look at the dog statue - A monument dedicated to the collie sheep dog without whom it would have been impossible to farm this land. Good dog.
Lake Tekapo also has natural hot pools and an outdoor skating rink. There was a school trip going on and we didnt fancy trying to relax in a hot pool with 100s of 10 year olds! So we chose to go ice skating...
Of course, we arent very good at this type of sport (especially Claire who has to hold onto something, or someone at all times). So we just glided round the rink crashing into the walls to stop and after a good hour and half we were getting better, we did however decide to call it a day when Claire came crashing down to the ice. Dont really know what happened in the split seconds of the fall, but both legs went either way and following a skid on her knee she came to a stop. The tricky part was getting up! Not the easiest thing to tackle in blades, on ice and with Dave not being very sturdy himself, but help came to the rescue when a kind bloke helped her up.
If skiing is anything like ice skating then we havent got much hope!
