Christmas in Asia is a totally different experience for me. I have treated myself to three nights in a nice hotel, which I booked four months ago. I have a lovely room with a balcony overlooking the lake and out towards Shwedagon. Nearby huge new construction work is taking place on hotels and shopping malls.
Christmas Eve is spent on a rooftop setting overlooking Kan Daw Gyi lake and the towering Shwedagon pagoda with my great set of VSO volunteer friends. It's a really good evening with fine food, free flowing wine and music.
Christmas day is fun and unique relaxing at a swimming pool in 33 degree heat. And to make the day complete, phone calls to Jon, Alex and Livy - the most important people in my life. I also speak to my lovely Mum, now enjoying her 94th Chrustmas!
Boxing Day is not wrapping up with hat, scarf and gloves but in shirt sleeves, walking around Kan Daw Gyi taking in the changing Yangon skyline.
I am also am mesmerized by the huge restaurant called Karaweik Palace built in the early 1970s based on the old Burmese Royal barges.
A memorable Christmas break and a great privilege to be here in Myanmar to experience a different kind of Christmas.

Marilyn Willwohl I too was taken by that hotel, it is quite a sight from the outside , I remember taking a lot of photos of it.
