Yangon is growing on me more and more. I enjoy the different routes to work in all weather conditions - this morning was torrential rain.

Returning in mid afternoon from Hlaing Thayar, my taxi trip contained another incident which makes me smile hours later. As I was in the taxi weaving in and out of traffic at slow speed, I noticed that the driver appeared to be missing the usual opportunities to edge out into another lane and one or two drivers were hooting their horns more than usual.

I looked across at him at him and discovered he was asleep! I gently woke him up and said if it was OK with him, if he could stay awake, I would quite like to continue my journey! No sarcasm there then!

I am beginning to get my bearings now and recognizing landmarks, main routes and shortcuts. I am looking forward to moving to the north of the city and the date is now confirmed as 21st August.

Late afternoon and early evening, I spent with VSO colleagues and staff and it was really good to meet those based here in Yangon. I'm really looking forward to the challenges and great adventures which lie ahead here.
