Day 35. Lazy Sunday morning, bacon and eggs on the barbie. Just before lunch we were picked up at our van park by a comfy bus as today we are cruising with Triple J Cruises 55km down the mighty Ord River back to Lake Kunnunurra in their very fast boat. Jeff the owner of JJJ was our bus driver and boat operator today. The 70km bus trip out to Lake Argyle Village was very scenic, stopping at the old Durack Homestead. We boarded our fast boat at the bottom of the dam wall which holds back fresh water with a volume of more than 19 Sydney Harbours which is available for growing crops in the Ord Irrigation System. The whole project is an engineering masterpiece. Our boat powered by 3 giant Yamaha V8 petrol outboard motors took us down the Ord River Gorge, with its imposing red escarpments, sometimes at speed. Jeff frequently stopped to point out large freshwater crocodiles and a wide variety of bird life. We pulled into a riverside camp for a delicious afternoon tea. Later a magnificent sunset viewed from the boat across Lake Kunnunurra and Elephant Rock. The boat dropped us right at our van park on dusk. A fantastic day of adventure, 27 degrees.
