Day 84. This morning we drove through spectacular tall forest country from Pemberton through tiny Northcliffe to tiny village of Walpole in the Walpole-Nornalup National Park. Before reaching Walpole around lunchtime we noticed a large burnt out section of forest along the highway from bushfires in March. Phone calls this morning for Father's Day, so lovely to also hear our little grandsons Jack (4) and Lachie (3) on the phone. We are staying in a National Park CP and campground right on Coalmine Beach within the pretty Nornalup Inlet. For Sunday lunch Raechel cooked up some hot soup with bacon, potato and celery with toast. Yummy! Then it was time to drive out to the Valley of the Giants for a treetop walk above the huge rare red Tingle trees (Eucalyptus jacksonii), some over 400 years old and with a hollowed out base 20m in circumference. Then we walked the Ancient Empire Walk amongst more of these forest giants. We were absolutely amazed at their size and beauty. On the way back to our van park we detoured along a dirt road to Conspicuous Beach and Conspicuous Cliff hoping to see whales but we were pleased with a rewarding view of the white sandy beach and the waves of the Southern Ocean crashing about. So many wildflowers about. Dinner tonight a quick fish and chips, the snapper is so fresh here. Drove 180km, cool 16 degrees, sunny periods.
