Day 81. Up early as we are doing another big day trip down to Margaret River and Cape Leeuwin. Stopped in MR to visit the information centre and for a walk along the main street. Interesting display of all the regional wines with beautiful labels. Next small village of Augusta on the Blackwood River mouth, then onto the old lighthouse at Cape Leeuwin, the tallest on mainland Australia and where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean. Driving north again along Cave Road we stopped for a view of white sandy Hamelin Bay but could see no rays. Through the tall timbers of the Boranup Karri Forest we stopped for lunch at the Boranup Gallery and Cafe, so much very expensive but beautifully crafted furniture and timber pieces. Then onto Mammoth Cave for a walk underground into one of the most beautiful and largest caves in the region, we were most impressed with the numerous stalagmites and stalactites and the huge lit up chambers. We selected three wineries to visit in our remaining time - Leeuwin Estate, Cape Mentelle and Vasse Felix - and we were not disappointed. All were located within beautiful gardens and gems of buildings with artwork and the wines were superb. Now we have some very good wines to drink on our trip. Our last stop on sunset was Injidup Point on Cape Clairault for a view of a magnificent white beach, rugged rocky coastline and rolling surf. Back to Busselton along Wildwood Road, numerous picturesque wineries and vineyards. Dinner pasta with chicken, tomato, onion and parmesan cheese with a good wine. Drove 260km, fine sunny day of 18 degrees.
