Day 72. Today we drove south through beautiful green and yellow rolling wheat and canola country and then west towards the coast. We have enjoyed our brief sojourn into the wheatbelt region behind the coast of Geraldton, especially the wildflowers experience. Morning tea at the bakery in the small grain town of Minganew and then through more beautiful wildflower country to the tiny coastal fishing village of Leeman for picnic lunch in the seaside park. Next resort town of Jurian Bay for a brief stop, swish houses and apartments with a long white sandy beach. Finally we reached our destination of quaint Cervantes on the Torquoise Coast, a small coastal village notable for its lobster industry and nearby Nambung National Park. A brilliant white sandy beach with lots of seaweed deposits in winter and cray boats moored offshore from the jetty. We checked into the Pinnacles CP right near the beach and soon we were on our way to visit nearby Lake Thetis noted for its ancient stromatolites. We then drove out to the Pinnacles for a late afternoon view of the strange but magnificent sandstone spires of the Pinnacles. As sunset approached the Pinnacles made fantastic photos, there must be thousands of these spires set in a golden sandy landscape. Back in Cervantes we grabbed a quick fish and chips dinner and local lobster. Drove 350km today, beautiful calm sunny day of 22 degrees. Tomorrow we head further south to the big city of Perth.
