Everyone slept well last night. When the kids woke up they played quietly in their beds so I slept on until 830 am while Nick read the paper in bed - bliss! We had a quick breakfast and then did a couple of hours schoolwork so that we could head out in the car. Nick packed a picnic and we spent the afternoon exploring Lake Tinaroo. We stopped at Downfall Creek for lunch, a free camp suitable for caravans, but once we got there we were glad we'd stayed in Walkamin as the sites were on a slope and the toilets all out of order. (It was only $3 cheaper a night too!!) The road around the lake was fairly awful to drive, as it was unsealed and full of huge potholes. We stopped at Cathedral Fig Tree for a look and then drove on to Lake Barrine where we enjoyed a Devonshire tea over looking the Lake at the old tearooms. On the way home we were supposed to stop in Yungaburra to have a walk along Peterson Creek as it's supposed to be a great place to spot a platypus but we overshot the turning and so came straight home. The kids spent the rest of the afternoon playing with their new Lego (the best $39 spent to date!!) and I played with my new Turbo oven making a batch of shortbread - fairly amazing for a first attempt! I also made some garlic bread in it to go with the pasta for dinner. We spent the evening planning where to go and what to do over the next few weeks then got stuck into 'A game of thrones' to see what all the fuss is about.
