I decided last night that I needed to make the most of my platypus spotting time in Bombala and so set the alarm for 6am as they are most active at dawn and dusk. This meant I had a terrible night's sleep worried I would sleep through the alarm and instead woke nearly every half hour! At 530am a heavy rainstorm came through and I nearly gave up on the whole idea but by 6am I was wide awake so got dressed and headed down to the river. I spent an hour and a half down there, got drenched in multiple showers but saw plenty of platypuses so it was well worth it - unfortunately the photos still don't capture the experience! Back at the van Nick was still fast asleep with the two girls in our bed and the boys were watching a movie. He soon woke up when the coffee machine started and from then on it was breakfast and pack up to hit the road. By the time we were done the van felt very soggy as it continued to rain all morning. We were on the road by 930am and we set off for Eden via Pambula, a much prettier route then yesterday. We took the road very slowly enjoying the scenery and arrived at Twofold Bay around 1130am. We checked into a Big 4 park as they have a 'kids stay free' special on at the moment making it only $23.50 a night. There is a pool, a jumping pillow, awesome camp kitchen and a big playground here. There is another caravan park next door and there we were quoted $75 a night!! We were allowed to choose a site, as it's quiet here at the moment despite NSW being on holiday for another week. We picked one close to the playground and were just setting up when the park manager came over and asked if they could use us to advertise their website! A photographer was coming at 2pm and wanted a family to snap. Awesome - I've been up since 530am, no shower, haven't had a hair cut or colour in months and my clothes are about to fall apart! We agreed as the kids were so keen and spent the afternoon being snapped by the van, a cabin and the pool. The kids all had to jump into the pool together smiling and they came up screaming, as the water was icy. With Matty's dodgy smile they had to do it multiple times and in the end I had to bribe them with the promise of hot chocolate and marshmallows. The park also paid for them to use the hot spa. Although I looked decidedly dodgy it was well worth agreeing to the photo shoot as the photographer offered us his block of land in Albury when we head that way! When we were finished we walked down to the bay and Nick, Katharine and Matty had a swim. It was lovely sitting in the sun watching the waves and by the time we got back to the van it had well and truly dried out. The kids went back to the pool for a swim while I gave it a clean and made dinner. We went back to the bay to have a walk and watch the sun set and while there I got a text from my younger brother announcing the arrival of my new nephew, James Mackie Royston - congratulations!! It's also Bardy's first birthday today, Pen's daughter, so we sang her happy birthday by phone. Finally, we got a call from the Real Estate Agent saying she had accepted an application from a Scottish family who want to rent our house - thank god!! Nick gets his last pay this week and they want to move in at the weekend. They also only want a 10-month lease to tie in with their visas so we will be able to move back in at the end of February when we head back to WA. We had dinner and showers and watched a bit of TV before bed - shattered after such an early start!!
