The kids woke up early again this morning and entertained the dog outside as it was nice and sunny. Nick and I eventually got out of bed and had a huge breakfast after our fasting day yesterday then we packed up the van. We were on the road by ten and it was a really pretty drive down to Canberra along the back streets passing crops then livestock and eventually hitting the Vineyards just before we entered the ACT. We drove through Cowra, which looked stunning but was too soon for a lunch stop so instead we stopped in Yass, finding a picnic spot beside the river. The kids climbed trees while we made sandwiches and then we fired up the generator for coffee and cake before having a walk along the river. There were rabbits and birds everywhere - a very pretty spot! We reached Canberra around 330 pm and found Epic Park easily. Epic Park is a cheap campground within the Exhibition Park. It's massive, unattractive and exposed to the wind but it has all the facilities you need and a powered site only cost us $50 a night! We missed the booking office on the way in so while Nick set up I walked to it with the kids and the dog. Big mistake as it was miles away on the other side of the grounds and took us at least half an hour to do the round trip!! By the time we got back Nick had completely organised the van and we were ready to do some laundry. Unfortunately we didn't have enough coins to use the machines here so we drove to a laundry in the next suburb. Nick dropped me off with the washing and he went off to McDonalds with the kids to get them dinner. While the washing was in the machine I had a walk around the village and it was full of fantastic Asian restaurants and take-aways. I had half an hour to kill while the clothes were in the dryer so I went to the pub next door and ordered a glass of wine. They didn't have any nuts or chips so I had to settle for some Salt and Pepper Squid and it had just arrived at my corner table where I was sitting in my comfy armchair reading my book and sipping my vino when I spotted Nick pressed up against the window peering in at me - talk about 'Sprung'! It was gone 6 by the time we got home and the kids went straight out to play. There are two mounds of earth outside our site and they were drawn to it like magnets. Nick and I ate dinner in peace and then called them in for showers and bed. We watched a bit of TV and then went to bed too in multiple layers and with a hottie - Canberra is as cold as country NSW!!
