So last night me and Theresa were trying to decide what to do with our day today and we had three options; the Aussie Open, the zoo or Philip Island. So after much deliberation and checking the weather forecast we decided that the Open was the way forward. And what a fantastic day it was! The day started off kind of cloudy and then got pregressively sunnier to the point where we were finding it too hot! And it then chilled right down later on.
Theresa kindly decided that she was going to treat me to the day which was lovely of her! However she wont let me pay for a thing, which is annoying and I feel really bad! We just got one of the ground paces which ment that we could go anywhere except from the Rod Laver Arena and the Hisense Arena. We actually ended up spending the whole day in the Margaret Court Arena and the matches were all pretty fantastic.
First we watched Jarmila Groth (Aus) v Sofia Arvidsson (Swe). For being 2 unseeded girls they were actually really good to watch, ended up playing for 2 hours! The crowd were right behind the Aussie lassy and I must admit I joined in with them! Unfortunately she didnt end up winning, the other girl beat her 2 sets to 1. We thought the Williams sisters were playing next bur there was actually another girls singles match on, Yanina Wickmayer (Bel) v Flavia Pennetta (Ita). It didnt look like it was gonna be a good match and Wickmayer kept saying "woopee" every time she hit the ball so I left and went for a wander. Just wandered about and saw a poor person dressed as a giant tennis ball which was pretty hillarious!
Went back after a wee while with a wee ice lolly for me and Theresa, but she totally confused me by going to the toilet so i couldnt find our seats cause i couldnt see her! Ended up sitting with a random girl until Theresa came back and turned out i had been in the right place lol! Anyway apparently that match had got a bit better, but i still dont think i could have watched a whole match of her saying woopee!! Wickmayer won 2 sets to none.
Finally the Williams sisters came on to play doubles against 2 Aussie lassies, Sophie Ferguson and Jessica Moore. In all fairness to the Aussie girls they gave it their best and to be honest kind of looked like they were just out to have a laugh and do what they can because they knew they were going to be beaten. It was still a really good match and pretty much the whole crowd was behind the Aussie girls. However it was really awesome to see the Williams sisters play in real life!
Next on was Antonio Veic (Cro) v Gael Monfils (Fra). Didnt know if they would be any good but they actually really ended up being a cracking pair to watch! The Croation fans were giving the French guy a bit of hassle so the whole crowd ended up getting behind him and he won three sets to none! But it was really cool cause the players kind of had banter going on between them and had a few really good ralleys as well!
Ended up staying until the evening so we could watch Andy Murray v Marc Gicoquel (Fra) which i was really excited about!! Thought it was all gonna be over in about half an hour because the French guy seemed a bit crap but he changed tactics and it ended up being not too bad a match! I did end up feeling a wee bit sorry for the French guy because the whole crowd was behind Andy! Must admit if i wasnt Scottish I may well hav swapped sides and supported the other guy cause i felt so bad for him! Oh and we had some of those yobby english guys sittin behind us and they kept talking all the way through the match and making stupid comments! Anyway Muray won three sets to none.
On the way home me and Theresa got chips from Lord of the Fries, and the only reason we went was cause we like the name and had seen another guy go there! I had chips and cheese which tasted amazin!! :) All in all it was a fantastic day!!
