Kari goes to Lincoln, England
I had planned on getting up and going to the computer lab for a bit before my seminar but I didn't wake up until 9 and my seminar is at 10. Seminar was ok. I ended up sitting next to this older guy in our class who doesn't have a clue what is going on. He was asking me about the questions for the final essay and I was like they have been on the virtual campus for two weeks and then he was wondering if he could access it from home...UGH get with it guy!!!!
Seminar as a whole was ok; we just talked about alternative media some more. We had to go into groups to talk about Siren and such but none of us really knew that much about Siren so we didn't really have too much to contribute to the class and then end of groups.
I had forgotten my piece of white plastic (card) which I have to use to get into the media labs so I had to walk all the way back to court 1 and then I went to work on my menu layouts for my project. I got a really good inspiration / idea and really like the layouts that I came up with. Yesterday afternoon I had gotten an email from Nigel about meeting with Doug Hamilton on Wednesday afternoon but that was just not going to work because I was leaving for Ireland in the morning. I checked my email while working on menu stuff and Nigel said I could catch up with Doug Hamilton at the faculty reception that afternoon. Oh little FYI for you all. Last November there was a representative from Lincoln who came to MSUM and that was Bryan Rudd. I talk about him all the time especially because I have him for radio and also because he is my advisor/contact here. Doug Hamilton is the representative from MSUM who came to Lincoln this semester and I was kind of upset when I found out at the last minute that he was here. I really wanted to meet with him.
I went to the media office right before my class to see if they knew where the reception was taking place. The guy working didn't know so I went to check if Bryan knew, and luckily for me Doug was there in Bryan's office. I went back to the lab and it was 1PM, time for class to start and I asked if it was ok if I skipped out of class for about 15 minutes to chat with Doug. I had a really good conversation with him about a number of things. We talked about my classes, friends, experiences, England, if I was glad that I had come etc. It was really nice talking to him and the funny thing is I had never really talked to him when I was in Moorhead so it was good getting to know him at the same time. He is a good guy, I was so fired up talking about how much I liked it here and the wonderful people that I had met and I also told him about my project I am working on for digital media which is titled 'Lincoln through American Eyes' I think its going to be good with some video from Lincoln and some photos and such. He was excited to see it and I was very excited to talk about it and will show it to him when I get back.
Our little meeting turned into a half hour to 45min and when I got back to class it was 1.45. We were showing the rest of the group what we had been working on for a project and how it was coming so far. I sat through a few of the presentations, I had missed most of them and then I did mine last. I wasn't as prepared as I wanted to be with my recent travels and being gone I hadn't worked on it as much as I wanted to.
The rest of the three-hour workshop was spent working on lighting in Maya and such. I got frustrated and didn't work on it too much. After class I was walking to the library yet again, my second home these days and ran into Claire from the play. She had just gotten back from being at home. We had a good 15-minute conversation about different things and I said I didn't know if I could make it to practice tonight because I had so much work to do. I walked away from our conversation really happy and feeling good.
I got to the library and settled in for a long night. I planned to stay until the library closed at 11.45PM in the hopes that it was finished by that time. I did get a lot done. I skimmed through a photography book and got some good pointers to use in the shooting of the rest of my photos. I found some other good things in the other books that I was using. A lot of my time was spent finalizing my topic and nailing down what exactly was going to be included in my project and how I was going to go about doing that etc.
When working on things like this I take Internet breaks and check my email or look at pictures on Facebook. I checked my Mnstate email because I hadn't done that in a while and I had gotten an email from Kim Brosdahl the area director of housing. I got offered the position of Resident Assistant (RA) for the 2006-2007 school year. I was so excited!!!
The night got long and I just wanted to be done with my research and development file. I had plans to start printing it at 11.15 in case anything went wrong I would have time to fix it and it seemed like I would be done by then. Eleven rolled around and had everything done but about 10 after I realized I didn't have contents so I made that quickly and fixed a few other things and by the time I got to print it was 11.30. When I was printing I realized I had saved over my contents with the old file that was all wrong so I had no table of contents. I printed the whole thing and then I printed the cover separate on the color printer. When I took the stack of papers off the printer it had printed back to back and I was going to reprint it when the lady called "it's time to shut down your computers" well this would have to do. A couple of minutes later my cover came off the printer and I had to leave the library. Talk about cutting it close. Well at least I finished it and got it done. I was in such a good mood when I walked out of the library because now I could go to Ireland and not have to stress.
When I got back I started packing and showered and called home and before I knew it, it was 3.30am - I had to get to bed because I had to get up early!!!!!1
Ireland here I come!!!
