Kari goes to Lincoln, England
Today was a pretty good day. I had 9am lecture but we had Steve Kirkby for the lecture instead of Brian. That's one thing they do a lot here is have other professors come in and talk which is interesting. I liked Steve as a lecturer; he was easy to listen to. He talked about sound design so it was really interesting and the hour flew by.
My second lecture of the day is Analyzing the media industries. The first slide was talking about photography so I was really excited. But no, it was not interesting. I got really bored 20 minutes into lecture and remembered that I had my computer with me and there is wireless Internet in the room. So I got my computer out and was playing around on the Internet and then I showed my friend Dave who was sitting next to me, my pictures from Boston. At the beginning of class he had asked me what I did. He hadn't ever been to Boston so I showed him the pics so that made class go fast.
After class I walked to the post office to mail some post cards and some other cards. I walked past a bakery and they had these rolls that looked so good so I went in and bought an éclair. It was yummy. I got to the post office and then line was super long!!! Duh - the day before valentines, but luckily it went really fast. Then I ventured back to campus I had about half an hour before my next lecture so I just surfed the internet checking the Olympics website. I really wish I could watch the Olympics. There are clips of the events that you can watch the next day or later in the day but of course those won't play either because I am not it the US, bummer. I went to class and the lecture for the day was about getting a job after University and the statistics about how there are jobs out there. A lot of it was about England and where to get jobs and where students have gone upon graduation and I started to get bored with this. I had had my computer out at the beginning of class and was just going to type notes on it, but when lecture didn't really pertain to me, I was back on the Internet. This time I looked at torches from the Olympics from the past years. That was really interesting. Part of the lecture did pertain to me though because he talked about what to do before you graduate, like start looking early etc and that was helpful.
I had a two-hour break before my next lecture so I planned on going to the library to work on my stuff. On my way there I ran into Ben (guy that was at MSUM last fall) and was talking to him and his friend Nick. And Nick says there's no lecture today for Digital Media and I was like what? Apparently for some classes after week 3 there's no more lecture. I wish someone would clue me in on these things. I still went to the library and got to sit in my favorite spot for the first time since I discovered it the first week of school.
I didn't get a whole lot done but managed to stay until about 5:30. Then I had to go to the grocery store. I kind of dread this because it's heavy carrying my stuff back. I usually don't buy that much but walking as far as I do, it gets heavy by the end. So I ventured to Morrison's and when I got back was really excited to eat some cereal because I had been out of that and milk for about three days. Yum yum. I didn't really do a whole lot tonight - took a little nap and then wasted time surfing on the Internet looking at Olympics stuff. At one point during the evening Viv came into my room and was said I made something for you on my computer and wanted to show me. It was a bunch of British music that I could listen to so I wouldn't be as clueless at the clubs, even though they do play a lot of American stuff. I was so surprised and excited - now some of the songs I have heard in the clubs, I can actually get the words to and can sing a lot. What a thoughtful gesture from Viv.
