Kari goes to Lincoln, England
I woke up at 10:40 for an 11am workshop. It is for my radio class. I am in a group with three other people: Morgan, Annabelle, and Dave. Our assignment is to create a 30-sec experimental radio piece. It is supposed to be based on one word and our word is romance. We have to have sounds and things to depict what our word is: we play it for the rest of the group next week to see if they can guess what our word is. After two hours of workshop we had to go to an hour of radio seminar right after that. It was interesting talking about sounds and such from our childhood and different things. I went back to my room to eat because it was 2pm and I hadn't eaten yet. I am getting sick of eating the food in my flat. I walked in the flat and guess what was in front of my room door? A package from home!!!! My credit card, debit card and ID. SO SO excited. I called my parents and told them that I had received them. They had sent them on last Thursday. By now it was almost three and I needed to go and meet with Bryan about getting into a workshop for my digital media class. We called the instructor at home - kind of weird - and I agreed to talk to her before the workshop the next day to talk about my experience with the programs. Bryan also talked to me about being in a different group for my radio class where I am going into the schools to help kids produce their own radio programs. So now instead of being with the two girls, I am in a group with Laura, Jennie and Chris. And instead of going to a school 15 miles out of town where I would need to take the train, I am going to the prep school, I forget the real name, and it is right next to the cathedral. It is the posh school. Oh my - I think I am really going to get the English experience now. After meeting with Bryan, I went to get something to eat, as I had not had time to eat yet that day. I went to a cash point (ATM) for the first time ever. I bought this sub type thing and chocolate milk. It was so good! I took a picture because I was so excited to be eating something other than cereal, oranges and sandwiches. After that I had some things I needed to purchase. Number one was an alarm clock. Its kind of rough waking up for school when you don't have an alarm clock. I went to this store called Argos - and its weird because you have to look through this giant catalog to find what you want, which I couldn't so the lady had to help me, and then I paid her but had to go wait in the back to pick it up. So she gave me an order number and ta-dah it was my lucky number 3 - things were definitely in my favor today. So after getting my alarm clock, I needed to get a mobile phone - its impossible for me to get a hold of people and them to get a hold of me. I went to this store called Phones 4 u and got the cheapest phone they had and it was pay as you go. I was in a really good mood so I wanted to explore a little bit. I decided to walk up steep hill again. On my way I stopped in a bookstore and bought a planner (or as it says on the cover diary) I also found some sweet Lincoln postcards. I continued on my walk and stopped in Poundland (a dollar store) because we had walked by it the other day but I wanted to go in. I found some tea and its not really that bad so I thought 100 bags for a pound - can't go wrong so I bought it. I was done shopping because my bags were starting to get heavy and annoying and I wasn't even to steep hill yet I was still on high street, which turns into Steep Hill. I had forgotten what a trek steep hill was and it is a little different at night. The cathedral at the top is gorgeous - I finally went in - it is so pretty, not to mention the outside looks really sweet at night all lit up. Some of my pics of the inside didn't really turn out, so I will have to come back another time during the day. There are so many cute little shops on steep hill - little teashops, and candy shops and theres this really sweet looking ice cream parlor - but everything closes at 5 - so dumb!!! I did see my first red telephone booth. It was kind of cold walking back down as it was after 6 at this point. I was so happy to get home because I was really cold and my hands were sore from carrying my bags. But it was a good night. I talked to Sarah and she said she was going to go out (Wednesday is the going out student night here) so she would give me a call later. I took a little nap and woke up at 9 and she hadn't called me - I was sad because I finally had money and could go out......so I called her and she ended up calling me back around 10:30 and had said the phone didn't work earlier or something. I met her at a pub called the Falcon and was there for one drink before we left to go to Ritzy. This is THE club in town and it was packed cuz it was the first Wednesday back from break. It's kind of expensive. I had a good time though; the group of people were fun. I got home around 3 am and was in bed shortly after - what a great day.
