Waking up this morning to another soar belly and repetitive trips to the bathroom is not anyone's idea of fun but something I have become used to here. In the morning I had to go to one of the outer suburbs to buy my bus ticket to Rurrenabaque - notoriously the worst and most dangerous road in Bolivia: taking anywhere from 18 - 40 hours to travel the 412km of gravel and mud road. It was quiet a mission even getting to Villa Fatima and when I arrived it took me a while to actually locate where all the buses and offices were. I eventually found them and settled on the company where there was the biggest line of people waiting to buy tickets. For about $10 I booked my ticket but unfortunately was told the bus has no toilet which could prove disastrous if I still have my soar belly tommorow. Next I had to head to downtown to meet Fra and book our Jungle tour, we met up and headed to the office of Fluvial tours where there was a huge amount of people waiting (good sign). We booked our tour and asked about others, Fra had to book flights aswell which mad the whole expedition a whole lot more expensive but also much more comfortable. After booking the your we had to go buy a few bits and pieces for the trek; headlamps, raincoats, vitamin B tablets and long white T-shirts. It took us a while to find everything but eventually we got everything, said our goodbyes and I headed back to Nyrzha's. tonight Nyrzha was having a dinner for her family and friends to show them her place - kind of like a house warming party. We had to cook and make food for about 18 people so first up we made tuna cake (same as Nyrzha had made for me the other night), next we made a chicken and vegetable stirfry dish with egg plant, peppers, carrots and onions. I also made my first chocolate pudding with layered biscuits- a shame I couldn't try as it was loaded with milk. Guests started to arrive around 6pm and I helped Nyrzha put out snacks and offer drinks etc- it was so nice being part of this experience and Nyrzha's family really welcomed me like I was part of the family. We chatted, laughed, enjoyed good food and celebrated Nyrzha's new home. I drank a few glasses of coca cola and unfortunately started to feel ill again, I hoped eating some of the chicken stirfry and tuna cake would make me feel better but no such luck. For dessert I brought out my pudding and also my rumballs I had made two weeks earlier - the rumballs were a huge hit and everyone loved them - it felt so nice I could give something small back to this wonderful family. Sitting around watching all the smiles and laughter made me think of my home and my family and how I missed them. Nyrzha's father brought out the champaign and toasted the new home a tradition here. After the toast I started to clean-up as Nyrzha had been running around flat-out for last 3 hours and I wanted to give her a break - some of the others jumped in and gave me a hand and within a few hours we had the place looking like new again. The family so kindly thanked me for making the evening so great and welcomed me to their family and insisted anything I needed I was just to ask. A great evening with great people what more could I ask for.
