After speaking with Bev and Ray, we decided we would spend a couple of days in Normanton. Ray said he was catching large redclaw crayfish there and we believed him. Well he might have got them but we certainly didnt! We only managed about 5 and they were pretty average in size but we enjoyed them anyway.
Allen played a game of bowls in Normanton and as usual, cleaned up. He has been bowling really well lately and is happy with his game.
We did a tour of the town and checked out the purple pub which apparently stated out a light mauve, them a few years later, a darker mauve and then a few years later full on purple! This pub has character and that had a rodeo in town the weekend we were there, which happened to be a long weekend, and the pub rocked! No trouble with punters according to the bar staff.
The Gulflander - which runs on original steel sleepers constructed 120 years ago - runs from Normanton to Croydon about twice a week. Visitors pay to ride this narrow guage rail there and back. We didnt go but Allen took some photos of it as it was departing.
We enjoyed our stay here. We would come back again.
