Monday
It's rained overnight but is bright and sunny this morning so we take our time with breakfast allowing for the Ducks canvass and our awning to dry a bit. We're finally packed up and showered and it's hugs all round before we hit the road.
We're heading for Cairns to pick up a new step for the camper (Martin ordered it when we were at Loyalty Beach) and then onto Port Douglas for 3 days of luxury. As we are heading south through Cairns to Jayco another car stops us at the lights to tell us the skylight in the van was open. We pulled up and Martin climbed on the roof at the side of huge road to fix it. After we pull up at Jayco Martin is concerned with a noise from the brakes but then it stops.
We head north again but the noise continues on and off. It appears to be the back passenger side - the same tyre that was flat the other day. There is no option but to take the tyre off and check so again Martin is doing running repairs at the roadside. Luckily we are on a back street (cause we'd taken a wrong turn and were heading back to the right road) but it is a very hot day. With the wheel off Martin can see that the brakes need replacing so while he does this I walk 2 blocks to the Auto One to buy a grease gun. When I get back. Martin has replaced the brake pads and checked the others. He says that it must have been faulty as the others were OK.
Back on the road we no longer have to worry about filling in time before check in at Port Douglas as we arrive at 1.30pm and the room is ready. We are able to park the camper out the front so we unload what we need and check out the room.
We have a swim out room but unfortunately we are on the shady side. I put on a load of washing and the towels in the dryer then get ready for a swim. As I get to the ladder I can see a lady in the next apartment who is halfway down her ladder. She seems to have been there for a while and tells me it's very cold. She's not wrong but we're only here 3 days so I jump in. The other side of the pool is in the sun so. I swim over to that edge. Very refreshing. I think I've shamed the other woman as she climbs all the way down and then eventually her husband gets in too. Another couple come out to their balcony and say that the first pool on the shady side is heated. I stay in for a little while but then go in for dinner which Martin has cooked.
The luxury is nice for a change and we make a few calls before going to bed.
