Wednesday
Today has to be the laziest day we've had. We get up and have breakfast and then just sit around all morning. We've booked to go on a river cruise this afternoon leaving at 4.30 and I don't even get out of my pj's till after lunch.
We arrive at the Marina just before 4pm and find out there are markets on every Wednesday from 2pm to 7pm. Our cruise is due back at 6pm so we have a quick look now with plans to buy some earrings once we get back.
After boarding the boat (The Lady Douglas) we take our seats. The hostess walks around asking for everyone's preference for the complementary drink. As she asks the people opposite she bends down to hear the answer in front of Martin who takes the opportunity to play air bongos near her bum. He is seen by quite a few passengers and the laughter erupts. From then on he was known as Cheeky Boy by the hostess (no pun intended). The couple opposite us were from Gosford and were staying at The Oaks as well.
The cruise was lovely even though it was a little late getting away. The skipper provided commentary and was very interesting. He saw a small (2.5m) croc and pulled the boat over. Close to the bank to allow for photos. A bit further along we saw another smaller croc on the bank and then I spotted one in the water. As we were down towards the stern it was too late to stop for a look.
We saw a white bellied sea eagle perched on the very top branch of a tree and as we pulled up close to the bank the hostess through some salmon onto the bank and the sea eagle swooped down to get it - a magnificent sight.
We turned at this point and headed back down the river so I went up to the front and told the skipper about the croc in the water. We found it again and photos were taken.
We went back past the Marina to the heads for a different view of Port Douglas. It's really pretty on dusk as all the lights of the town come on. We pulled into the Marina a little before 7pm so the markets were closing down and I missed out on the earrings. I'm kicking myself I didn't get them earlier.
We move the car closer to the town and walk up the street to choose somewhere for dinner. We go back to the Iron Bar where we had lunch yesterday. I have a bucket of prawns and Martin has Barramundi spring rolls for entree and then we both have Barramundi for mains - Martin with salad and mine with a roast veggie stack.
