Saturday
Our final bush camp warranted some photos so after we were all packed up we took a few. On the road again at around 9am we make a toilet stop in the town of Laura before heading this time along the bitumen towards Mareeba.
It's quite a winding road but well maintained. Karen rang the van park at Mareeba while we were in transit to check the bookings and was told there wasn't one and they were full but then the signal dropped out. We stop at Palmer River Roadhouse for a break and drinks and also to call the van park again. I try this time and there is a booking - we're not really confident though as Murray the owner was a little vague. We arrive at Mareeba around lunchtime and Murray seems a bit unorganised. We are both placed on a very small site (that I don't think was actually a site anyway. Our water was from the tap of a permanent resident.
We set up before going back into town to restock our groceries. Once back Karen and I make friends with the little joey - La roo.
We shower and go back to town again for our celebration dinner at The Graham Hotel. Martin had Barra and the rest of us the chicken and mine was delicious. After a few drinks we head back to camp and reminisce about our travels over the last 3 weeks. Although it was quite warm today it has grown cooler as night fell. For the first time in weeks we put on long pants and light jackets.
