What else to do on a Sunday morning but experience the Kenyan Gospel Church!
A group of us set off at about 10am to walk through the tea plantations to get to the church, it was a really hot morning but we had to be smartly dressed so it was roasting walking with jeans and a long top on! The singing was amazing, very loud and catchy, my hands were sore from clapping after an hour! The service was from 10.30am till 12.30pm, the first hour was just singing - mostly in swahili, then there was a service. They called the visitors to the front to bless us (there was only the 5 in our group), and they sang a lovely song with actions, then we had to each speak into the mic and thank the congregation for welcoming us. I really enjoyed it, at the end we sang some English hymns from the songs of praise.
We took a slow walk back to Brackenhurst for lunch before having an afternoon chilling, sunbathing and playing connect 4 with Verena :) I wrote my blog to try and keep up with it, but it's such a chore some days!! Also spoke to Adz for the first time since I left home I think, that was really good catching up. We really need to organise what on earth we're going to do for hogmany in Sydney!! At the moment it looks like we're going to be 3 homeless scots :) Phoned Gran and Auntie Rosemary for 5 minutes to see how they were both doing which was really nice.
I leave on Saturday morning early doors and Chris leaves on Friday so this was really the last weekend in our group of 10!! So 6 of us went into Nairobi to the famous Carnivore restaurant for Chris and my leaving night! We all got showered and dressed up which was good fun and were picked up at about 6pm in a taxi.
Apparently the restaurant is in the top 50 in the world. It was amazing. I ate chicken, pork, beef, lamb, turkey, chicken gizzard, ox balls, crocodile, ostrich and camel. All the meat was served to you at the table and out of all the meats, crocodile was by far the tastiest. We could start farming crocodile dad?!? The whole night was such a giggle, lots of cocktails and 3 bottles of red wine later we were the last table in the restaurant.
We met John randomly, who was a volunteer that left last Monday and Vic was also there on a different table with his family. Jess was on top form though and slightly drunk hehe, she had us all in stitches the whole night, far too many giggles to even mention.
John was our driver who came and collected as about 10.30pm, we were all a bit tipsy and ready for home. We got to the outskirts of Nairobi when the taxi stopped in the middle of nowhere. We had broken down! To start with we thought it was John playing a joke on us then soon realised we were totally stuck!
While we waited for someone to come and fix the car, I played some tunes on my pod! Surprisingly everyone liked the selection I chose, then made them listen to She thinks my Tractors Sexy - thinking they'd tell me to get it off!! Guess what Vince and Allyssa knew the words and sang it with me! I thought this was hilarious, Vince also had it on this pod too. After that we listened to country music for the next 45mins while we waited. Outside you couldn't see anything around and it was thunder and lightening but the country music was a laugh. Everyone else was sleeping by this time.
Eventually someone came with fuel as we had apparently completely ran out of petrol and it was back on the road!
Tried to be extra quiet when I got back as my two room mates were sleeping, and it was about 1pm but it seemed the harder I tried to be quiet the more noise I made woops!! :)
Night night folks, I've just had the best night in Kenya to date!!!! Recommend Carnivore to everyone! xxxxx
