Well this was the first morning this week we managed to have breakfast without any bad news about violence in Niarobi :)
Today I went back to the Family Planning Clinic in Karuri Health Centre, as I was going to run the clinic with 2 student nurses but there was no clients!!! So I went next door to the under 5's clinic which was really busy! There was a talk about the pneumococcal, polio and diphtheria immunisations which was was really interesting!
Verena the other volunteer student nurse from Germany, was meant to be helping in this clinic but no-one had ever shown her the paper work or how to inject babies. I felt really bad because it was so busy I ended up taking over for a while and tried to explain how things worked. She was really grateful in the end but still felt bad. The health centre in general was much quieter today compared to the last couple of days!
It was Carielle's last day in the clinic today so managed to get some good photos and a group one :)
The afternoon was glorious when we got back to the cottage, I sat outside in the sun and wrote my blog. Also tried to read my book but everyone comes back from their projects at different times and basically just sat and chatted!!
Jess and I went for a walk outside Brackenhurst before tea, but not so far as the last time!!
We had a group BBQ outside tonight, which was a nice change! They had made a huge fire with chairs all the way around and after dinner Patrick spoke to us all about what has been happening in Kenya over the last week.
We were all able to ask questions etc and he gave detailed information about the advice they've been given by African Impact's head office and the US embassy.
Basically we are not allowed to enter Nairobi at present. The terrorists are targeting shopping malls, night clubs and public places that Westerners are likely to be. Therefore our work in the slums have all been stopped and we are not allowed into the city to get shopping!
The Information that was given was not knew to any of us but we now realise the scale of the problem! Our trip to the elephant sanctuary, giraffe orphanage and dinner at the famous carnivore restaurant has also been cancelled.
We are still allowed to go to our local projects, go to the local country club and to Limuru grocery store! basically no further than 10mins drive from our accommodation!
Ok I'm bored writing about all the serious stuff!!! Had so much fun tonight when we got back - Jess, Chris, Allyssa and I planned an attack on the guys (was so childish but hilarious!) we hid in the top cupboards of the wardrobe and when they were meditating with allyssa in their room we pushed the cupboard doors open and screamed! They were all terrified - their faces were a picture! Jess managed to film it all on video too. Far too funny!!! :)
Had a viber chat with Mum tonight as Dad was at a meeting! Then spoke to Andrew for ages too :D until the wifi gave up tho which was really annoying!!
Ooo yeah also had an email from Mum this afternoon telling me I got a tax refund!!! Whoop whoop - all good :)
