Kununurra aka Jurassic Park- An Egret, Freshwater Crocodile and a Jabiru
Kununurra, Western Australia
As we reached Kununurra we knew our time in WA was nearing the end. Our accommodation was not what we had expected. Set on Lake Kununurra we had an absolutely fantastic view of the lake with mountain ranges behind. After a quick set-up of Judy we went down for sunset and a drink. The lady at reception said it was like Jurassic park with all the animal life. Between the local freshwater crocodile, the Egret fishing and the massive Jabiru just resting on the bank it was a fantastic sight to see such an array of different animals.
We had seen on Instagram, videos of a river crossing nearby. We had Larry so we thought we'd might as well give it a go. The Ivanhoe Crossing is a man-made crossing, with a concrete base. Tristan being the worry wart he is wanted to watch someone else cross first as there were no height indicators and we didn't want to annoy Larry too much. Within minutes a fellow landcruiser powered through the crossing with no hesitation at all. It was reasonably deep, but we forged ahead anyway. The sight of the river was just amazing. With the GoPro rolling we captured some pretty cool photos and video's… another experience ticked off the list.
It was then off to some of the sights around town. The hoochery was first. Not being massive rum drinkers, we thought we had still better give it a go. Nice…at $90.00 per bottle we opted not to buy. But an amazing old building in its own right. We even both said it would be a nice wedding venue… but considering where it is… we think not.
The heat was definitely by now setting in… We needed a fan quick smart. After looking at all the local retailers, we settled for the $20.00 Coles option. Still one of our best purchases of the trip… Finally, we can sleep through the night.
Next Stop- Lake Agyle and the INFINITY POOL!
