Not knowing a great deal about Carnarvon we were presently surprised and delighted by the masses of fresh fruit and veggies at all of the road side stalls. Unlike Melbourne fresh 'fruit and veg' is hard to come by in WA.
After a very friendly welcome at reception, followed by help backing into our site at the caravan park it was off to stock up from the local growers in the area. Cheap produce and the best bananas we have ever had! From eggplant to lettuce, oranges, herbs, capsicum and everything in between… We were in our element.
During our 3 nights in Carnarvon, the weather wasn't always promising but thankfully heavy rain held off! We visited the OTC Space Museum and the local sites on one of our days. The day before we were due to leave, Larry let his hair down on the 200km round trip to the infamous Red Bluff (start of the Ningaloo Reef). The road was gruelling to say the least…the puddles were more of a river crossing… and let's just say Larry was a shade of red as not his original white colour. Although the rough tracks and sore backs for the both of us, it definitely didn't disappoint.
It was veggies for dinner every night and banana smoothies for breakfast every morning. Here's hoping it's not too long before we have fresh fruit and veggies again!
