We wanted to visit Paraburdoo to see where Tara's uncle and cousins worked and lived for many years…it turns out we ended up staying the night in town. After a long drive from Exmouth we soon realised that Rio Tinto (the Western Australian Government) had their very own caravan park… But $25/night (and free use of the washing machines) it was a bargain…except for the drunk miners coming off there shifts!! Even the night shift workers were cracking a stubbie at 6am! It was an interesting place, basically set up as a mining town servicing the surrounding Rio Tinto mines and the FIFO (fly in fly out miners). Paraburdoo also allowed us to see the isolation and loneliness of living in a remote community.
A quiet and friendly little town. Thanks Paraburdoo- Bring on Karijini!
