We said back in Karratha that Barn Hill would be the next place we would bump into our Tassie friends Jeannie, Keith, Sonia and Phil and by coincidence we weren't wrong. You wouldn't read about it but we actually followed them down the long sandy track in! Sonia even grabbed the gates for us and didn't realise it was us until we thanked her, then she burst out laughing.
We didn't know what to expect of Barn Hill, some people sang praises other told us not to bother. But we needed to see for ourselves. Jammed in like sardines for a powered site was an understatement so we opted for unpowered which overlooked the beach instead! The open air dunnies and showers were interesting… as there were pieces of corrugated iron with a thousand holes in it and let's face it…not enough to cover you up! Like anything it was an experience.
The beach was one of the most stunning bits of coastlines we have seen to date. Where the red dirt meets the coast of bright white sand and turquoise water. It really is just like nothing else. The 12km trek to the caves was stunning, unfortunately it was an abnormally high tide so we couldn't see them from the beach, but they were just as beautiful from the top looking down. Tristan tried a bit of surf fishing but soon realised why everyone had tinnies.
